Saturday Market

We had previously arranged with Felicity to have her cleaning lady come and "hoover" for us today and next Saturday.  Jackie is to hoover and change the sheets and towels and generally put things back the way they were.  She was to come at 9:30 AM so Kay and I decided to go out for breakfast this morning to get out of her way.  She was a very nice lady.  We headed out not exactly sure where we were going to go eat but after several trips around the traffic circle with both of us yelling "wheeeee", we decided to go to Shipston on Stour which was just a few minutes away.

It is a beautiful crisp morning.  We find a place to park in the "free" spaces and head off walking.  We went in a couple shops and looked around and then settled on the The Bakery and Cafe.  This was one that allowed you to put together your own choices rather than set breakfast items which here includes baked beans and blood pudding....ehhhh NO!  This was the first cup of coffee I've had since I got here and I wasn't what I was hoping for in taste but gave me the needed caffeine boost.  After breakfast while walking around town we found a "Town Cryer" who was walking around ringing a bell announcing some public meetings.  It was very cute.  Everyone in the village seemed to be our and about shopping today as it was quite crowded.

We were taking photos of the beautiful flowers, produce and baked goods when this man walked up to us laughing and saying he has never seen anyone take photos of vegetables before.  He said I know you aren't from here.  We had a good laugh with him.  Further up the street I took a photo of some shopping carts because here you must put a pound coin in to get a cart.  They are chained and locked together.  You get the money back when you return it to the cart area.  In this instance the Co-Op was in town and this spot was by a parking area which was nice since you didn't need to walk it all the way back to the store after loading your car.....very smart.  We bought a couple things and headed home since we wanted to do some laundry, sort through photos and write the blog.

It started to rain just as we pulled into the drive and has gotten colder and continued to rain all afternoon.  We are going out for dinner to the Ebrington Inn so will let you know about that in tomorrow's blog.

We talked about the fact that last week at the time we were pulling in we were arriving here for the first time.  It's hard to believe that we have been here a week already but my body can...I was ready for an easy day.

There is a slot on the handle to insert the coin

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

These are different sized containers of milworms.....hmmmmm

These photos are from near the cottage.  This is rapeseed which is used to make canola oil.
It is widely grown here and is now peaking in it's blooming season.

The lemon merengue pie we bought.
