We walked down to where we watched the parade last night as the floats were to be on display there all day. It was packed with people and food trucks and fun. Similar to our county fairs at home. We had a great time taking photos of the floats since it was too dark last night to get any good ones. The photos don't let you smell though and the whole area smelled of hyacinths since there were widely used (and my favorite bulb flower) and there were tons of vendors selling bunches of flowers as well. We grabbed a ham sandwich while out and dodged a few showers in coffee houses but it was a fun day.

We were walking around trying to figure out where we were going to eat dinner when we say people taking flowers from the floats...apparently at the end of the day they let people take them since they will be thrown away. Too bad we didn't know sooner since we bought some for our room this afternoon. That didn't stop us and we got more and brought them back. We left them in the sink and went to dinner. Everyone takes forever to eat here too and you don't have a set waiter...it is rather strange the system but you have to chase someone down to get a check. I had a scallop and shrimp stir fry and Kay had ribs...both were very good. It continued to rain off and on and has gotten much windier and colder as the day went on...we could tell while we were eating since the residents were bundling up with coats and their hats, scarfs and gloves!
Kay has done a marvelous job of flower arranging while I have been writing and catching up on blogs. We now have flowers everywhere in here and it smells wonderful! We have just watched the weather forecast in Dutch and it appears tomorrow is going to be a lost cause with lots of rain so we may hit some museums tomorrow.
The lilies in the front are all one stem so you can't blame her...I stuck it in there.. |
This Bromeliad one wouldn't fit anywhere so Kay stuck it in her carry on |
Can you tell that's me in the mirror? I was in a hurry and didn't want to miss Kay's expertise in the bathroom. |
We had another great day in a new city...well done us! I haven't figured out the language here yet to say it in Dutch.
Beautiful flowers! Glad you found some sunshine.
ReplyDeleteDid you try the nonpareils? They look huge! The kids loved the shoe floats!
